On January 10th, 2003, the Department of Mathematics was established. After that, the Department of Information Technology was established. In the period 2003 - 2013, the Department of Mathematics and Department of Information Technology have completed their assigned tasks.
On July 1st, 2013, the Department of Mathematics and Department of Information Technology were merged into the Department of Mathematics - Information Technology Teacher Education. Along with the development of Dong Thap University in the period 2013 - 2018, the Department of Mathematics - Information Technology Teacher Education has completed its assigned tasks.
On March 21st, 2018, the Department of Mathematics Teacher Education was established from the Department of Mathematics - Information Technology Teacher Education after the Division of Information Technology was merged with several other divisions to establish the Department of Engineering - Technology.
On October 9th, 2020, on the development orientation of Dong Thap University (DThU). The University Council decided to establish the Department of Mathematics - Information Technology Teacher Education based on merging the Department of Mathematics Teacher Education, and the Division of Information Technology from the Faculty of Engineering - Technology.
Currently, the Department of Mathematics - Information Technology Teacher Education has 32 faculty members, of which 40% are Associate Professors and Doctors; is structured into 2 Divisions: Mathematics Teacher Education and Information Technology, in charge of contents related to 3 undergraduate curricula and 1 postgraduate curriculum.

2. Mathematics Teacher Education (undergraduate)
3. Computer Science (undergraduate)
4. Theory and teaching method of Mathematics (postgraduate).
Besides, the Department also undertakes to teach Mathematics and Information Technology subjects for other curricula of Dong Thap University.
